It is a multisystem disorder in women of reproducing age with ovarian expression of various metabolic disturbances and a wide range of clinical features such as obesity , menstrual abnormalities and hyperandrogesim.
What causes PCOD ?
The various factors responsible for the development of PCOD are :
Hormonal imbalance – Primarily happens due to excessive levels of testosterone (male hormone ) which interrupt with the normal functioning of female hormones.
Dietary habits – Poor nutrition can lead to obesity and poor resistance
An alteration in GnRH secretion resulting in increased LH secretion.
A defect in androgen synthesis that results in increased ovarian androgen production.

What are the Investigations done ?
The test done to confirm the diagnosis are :
Ultrasound lower abdomen
Findings seen are : 12 or more follicles placed peripherally. It shows hyperplasia if present
